Kerala waits for Sanju to wield his bat
Thiruvananthapuram: Will local lad Sanju Samson play in the final eleven of the Twenty20 international match? This is the million-dollar question asked by every Malayalee ahead of the much anticipated match between India and West Indies at the Greenfield Stadium here on Sunday.
Fans hope that Sanju will play on the home ground. The other question is whether the management would be willing to change the team that registered a massive victory against West Indies in their previous match.
Sanju’s plus point is that “he is Kerala’s only boy”. Sanju had scored 91 off 48 balls against South Africa A in the same ground in September. Sanju never got a chance to play in the series against Bangladesh. But a question could arise against the cricket management if they do not let him play this game as he had been in the squad for 2 games and never played a single ball.
But the impending question is who would Sanju Samson replace in the team that won the first match. Opener Lokesh Rahul smashed 62 runs in Hyderabad followed by Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer.
Rishab, who was promoted to number four in the batting order, scored only 18 runs. But he pushed up India’s score rapidly and relieved the team’s pressure. Shreyas Iyer, who nearly established himself as India’s number four batsman, was out for 4. But there is a huge possibility that Shreyas, who has played consistently good innings, would not be replaced.
