Kochi: A core committee meeting of Kerala BJP here on Sunday failed to reach a consensus regarding the party’s state president.
Now, it is likely that the BJP central leadership would intervene in the matter and decide the state president. BJP will also seek the opinion of RSS, said the saffron party’s national secretary (organisation) B. L. Santhosh.
K. Surendran, M. T. Ramesh and Shobha Surendran were the names that came up during the core committee meeting here.
Kerala BJP has been without a president for over a month now. It is this context that the party’s central leadership intervened and summoned a core committee meeting. However, as various groups stood firm on their demand, the meeting failed to reach a consensus.
Muraleedharan group put forward the name of K. Surendran. Krishna Das put forward the name of M. T. Ramesh and A. N Radhakrishnan. Meanwhile, senior leaders including O. Rajagopal have suggested Shobha Surendran to lead the party.
Earlier, BJP’s central leadership had informed that a new state president will be announced. However, as the meetings have failed to reach a consensus, the central leadership is likely to send another team to the state. The team is likely to be headed by G. V. L. Narasimha Rao.
The central team will visit BJP state leaders and seek their opinion. They will also seek the opinion of the RSS. The new Kerala BJP president is likely to be announced by the end of December or the beginning of January.
